How to Make Animals out of GIMP

    • 1). Click on the "Start" menu, scroll to "All Programs" and click on "GIMP." Press the keys "Ctrl" and "N" to create a new file.

    • 2). Create a canvas large enough to fit the entire animal drawing. Click on the "Image" menu tab and scroll to "Canvas Size." Click on the arrow buttons next to "Height" and "Width" to increase or decrease the size of the canvas. Press the button that reads "OK."

    • 3). Draw the outline of the animal. Click on the color swatch in the tool bar. In the pop-up window, select a color from the color wheel. Click on the "Brush" tool. Place the cursor inside the canvas and left click. Move the cursor around the canvas to draw a line or shape. When you complete a line or shape, release the mouse. Continue drawing lines until you complete the animal.

    • 4). Move your mouse to the "Layers, Paths and Channels" window. Create a new layer by pressing the "New Layer" button.

    • 5). Click on the "Bucket" tool and click inside the outline. This adds a fill color to the animal's outline.

    • 6). Add details to the animal. Move your mouse to the "Layers, Paths and Channels" window. Create a new layer by pressing the "New Layer" button. Click on the "Brush" tool and select the appropriate color using the color wheel. Draw the detail on the image using the mouse. For example, draw a black eye. Click on a black color within the color wheel and place your mouse over the area where the eye sits. Left click and drag your mouse in a small circle. Release the mouse.
