How to Edit a MDI File
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and then click "All Programs". Navigate to and click the "Microsoft Office" folder to expand.
- 2). Click the "Microsoft Document Imaging" link from the available programs list. The Microsoft Document Imaging interface will launch.
- 3). Click the "File" option from the top navigation bar, and then select "Open". A file navigation window will open.
- 4). Navigate to and click on the MDI file to edit. Click the "Open" button. The file will open in the interface.
- 5). Click the "Tools" option on the top navigation bar, and then select "Recognize Text Using OCR" option to scan the document with the Optical Character Recognition engine. A progress bar will indicate when the OCR conversion is complete.
- 6). Click "OK" to close the OCR dialog box. The scanned MDI file has now been converted to rendered text.
- 7). Copy the text in the MDI document by pressing the left mouse button and dragging over the desired text.
- 8). Press the CRTL + C keys on the keyboard, or right-click and select "Copy", to copy the text to the clipboard.
- 9). Click inside a Word document, and then press the CRTL + V keys, or right-click and select "Paste", to paste the text into the Word document.

Edit the document text in Microsoft Word and then save the file as a Word document.
