    • 1). Open your image in Photoshop. Click "Image > Mode > 8 bits per channel" as Extract does not work for 16-bit images.

    • 2). Select "Filter > Extract." In the pop-up window select the "Edge Highlighter" in the top left corner. Set the brush size to around six pixels. Carefully highlight the edge of the object you want to extract with the green highlight just overlapping the object and the background. Complete the line around the object so there are no gaps.

    • 3). Select the "Bucket/Fill" tool from the left-hand toolbar and click inside the outline on the object. The object is filled with a blue overlay. Click "OK" to complete the filter action.

    • 4). The cut-out object is displayed against a transparent background. Clean up any pixels from the background using the "Eraser" tool. Re-create any missing information in the object using the "History Brush" to get a clean extracted image.

    • 5). Add a new layer using "Layer > New Layer." Fill the layer with a new background image to complete your photograph.
