How to Make Handcrafted Ribbon Belts
- 1). Measure the waist of the person who will be wearing the belt. Add 10 inches for an adult belt and 8 inches for a child's belt and cut two pieces of ribbon that length.
- 2). Pin the two pieces of ribbon together with the right sides of the ribbon facing outward. The right side of ribbon or fabric is the side that features the pattern more darkly or brightly. If you can't tell the difference between the two sides, pick one.
- 3). Stitch around the perimeter of the ribbon as pinned. Trim the ends. Apply fabric fray preventer to each short end of the sewn-together ribbon.
- 4). Fold over one short end of the ribbon 1/4 inch and iron. Place the two D-rings on the end of ribbon that has been folded over. Fold it over the flat ends of the D-rings so that the ribbon encompasses both rings snugly. Pin. Stitch as pinned.
