• Baby bottles can be manufactured out of glass or plastic. Consumer advocate groups have debated over which materials are safest for babies.
  
  

Material

• In 2008, published research linked Bisphenol A (BPA) as an endocrine disrupter and possible cancer culprit found in many plastic containers and bottles. Gerber bottles are made of BPA-free plastic and do not contain polycarbonate plastic, which has been linked to harmful side effects. Instead, Gerber bottles are made of polypropylene.
  
  

Significance

• The research is not definitive as to the possible effects of BPA plastic. Parents are encouraged to take the safe road and only give their babies bottles made of glass or BPA-free materials.
