Internet to Senior-Net - Tormentors to Tech-Mentors
What do these terms mean? Well, seniors are finally discovering the internet.
A recent article in USA Today by Janice Lloyd pointed out that seniors are surging on social networks.
It was also reported recently that the fastest growing age segment of internet users is the over 55 crowd.
Seniors are finally getting acclimated to the internet.
If they begin to dominate the internet like they have everything else over their lifespan, the internet will soon become the Senior-net.
Remember.
You heard it first right here.
SENIOR-NET.
And why shouldn't they be the fastest growing age group? Over the past few years, computers, cell phones, iPads, Kindles, the net itself have all made the internet much easier to access no matter where you are or what you are doing.
These tools are no longer just for the geeks.
Grandkids have grown up with all this stuff and are beginning to act as tech-mentors to their grandparents.
Hey! Another new term.
TECH-MENTORS.
Grandkids had always been tormentors.
Not any longer.
Besides.
Who better to learn from than your own grandkids? They are non-threatening, really know their stuff, and are around often enough to make sure Gramps and Gramma are sticking with it.
The grandkids feel important helping Gramma and Gramps learn from them for a change.
And it makes Gramma and Gramps proud of themselves and their grandkids to be able to share something that is both fun and educational.
Plus, grandparents have enough time on their hands that surfing the web can provide them with a real window on the world.
Being able to keep in touch with distant family, and old friends who can't travel as much as they once did is not only fun but also therapeutic.
The ability to see instant photos and videos over the net is the next best thing to being there in person.
What has become common place in just a few short years is nothing short of breathtaking to all of us.
So as the grandkids migrate from tormentors to tech-mentors and help their grandparents change the internet to the senior-net, what will be next? Put money on the grandparents posting to blogs, opening internet marketing businesses, and becoming the next wave of internetproneurs.
Hey! Could that be yet another new term?
