How to Install or Upgrade to Mac OS X Leopard (10.5)

When you’re ready to upgrade to Leopard (OS X 10.5), you will need to decide what type of installation to perform. OS X 10.5 offers three types of installation: Upgrade, Archive and Install, and Erase and Install.

The Upgrade option is the most common method of installing OS X 10.5 Leopard. It effectively preserves all of your user data, network settings, and account information, while it installs OS X 10.5 Leopard over your existing operating system.

Upgrading is a great choice for most users, as long as their current version of OS X is performing without any major issues. Specifically, if you’re experiencing unusual application crashes, freezes, or even your Mac shutting down unexpectedly, it’s a good idea to try to correct these problems before performing an upgrade.

If you’re unable to correct the problems you’re experiencing, then you may wish to consider one of the other installation types (Archive and Install or Erase and Install), in order to end up with a correctly functioning installation of OS X 10.5 Leopard.

If you’re ready to perform an upgrade installation of OS X 10.5 Leopard, then gather up the necessary items and we’ll get started.
