How to Change the Search Provider From the Address Bar on Windows XP
- 1). Click the button labeled "Search" at the top of the screen to bring up the Search Companion.
- 2). Click "Change Preferences," then click "Change Internet search behavior."
- 3). Scroll down the list to find the search provider that you want to use, and click "OK." This website will now be your default search provider. Unfortunately, your choices are limited to just those sites that are listed. To use any search provider that you want, upgrade to the most recent version of Internet Explorer.
- 1). Click the arrow next to the magnifying glass icon, and click "Change Search Defaults."
- 2). Click the search provider that you want to use, click "Set Default" and then click "OK." If the search provider that you want to use is not on the list, click "Find more providers." This will bring you to a website labeled "Add search providers to Internet Explorer." Leave this window open.
- 3). Open a new window, and browse to the website that you want to use as your search provider. On the website, search for the word "TEST" with all capital letters and no quotation marks.
- 4). Click inside the address bar at the top of the browser window when you reach the results page for the "TEST" search. Hit the "Ctrl" and "A" buttons on the keyboard simultaneously to highlight everything in the address bar, then hit "Ctrl" and "X" simultaneously to cut the text to your clipboard.
- 5). Switch back to the "Add search providers to Internet Explorer" window. Click inside the box labeled "Paste the URL of the search results page," and hit the "Ctrl" and "V" keys simultaneously. The copied text will appear in the box.
- 6). Enter a name for the search provider in the box immediately below the one where you pasted the URL for the search engine results page and then click "Install."
- 7). Click the arrow next to the magnifying glass icon. Your search engine will be shown. Click it to change the default search provider.
- 1). Click the arrow next to the magnifying glass icon, and click "Manage Search Providers."
- 2). Right click the search provider that you want to use, and click "Set As Default." If the search provider that you want to use is not on the list, click "Find more search providers." This will bring you to a website called the Internet Explorer 8 Add-ons Gallery.
- 3). Click the "Create your own Search Provider" link. This will take you to a new page. Leave this window open.
- 4). Open a new window, and browse to the website that you want to use as your search provider. On the website, search for the word "TEST" with all capital letters and no quotation marks.
- 5). Click inside the address bar at the top of the browser window when you reach the results page for the "TEST" search. Hit the "Ctrl" and "A" buttons on the keyboard simultaneously to highlight everything in the address bar, then hit "Ctrl" and "X" simultaneously to cut the text to your clipboard.
- 6). Switch back to the "Create your own Search Provider" window. Click inside the box labeled "URL," and hit the "Ctrl" and "V" keys simultaneously. The copied text will appear in the box.
- 7). Enter a name for the search provider in the box immediately below the one where you pasted the URL for the search engine results page, then click "Install Search Provider."
- 8). Click the box labeled "Make this my default search provider," then click "Add."
