One of the most popular museums in the area is the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts (SMoCA).
Established to support Scottsdale's modern art, the SMoCA is home to local contemporary and modern works in the field of design, art and architecture.
On the other hand, the Scottsdale Historical Museum is also one of the most visited museums on this side of Arizona.
Formerly known as the Old Red Brick Schoolhouse in 1896, the Scottsdale Historical Museum was opened upon the establishment of the Scottsdale Historical Society in 1991.
Being a local organization, the Scottsdale Historical Society deemed it necessary to have a local institution that would spearhead and maintain the preservation of the area's local history and culture.
As such, the Scottsdale Historical museum houses old photographs, artifacts and other memorabilia that showcase local history and heritage.
The old classrooms of the former Old Red Brick School were also preserved.
The local tourism office believes that a place's heritage and history are some things that visiting individuals should know.
Because of this, Scottsdale travel deals commonly include one or two visits to the area's popular museums.
