Know about Queen Elizabeth national park in
Uganda

Queen Elizabeth national park is known as
the second largest national park in Uganda that is after the famous Murchison
falls national park. Queen Elizabeth park is located in the south western
Uganda and covers an area of about 2060 square kilometers. Among the key
attractions in this park include the kazinga channel, lake George and  Albert and an array of wildlife. About the temperatures,
this park receives a minimum 18degrees celicius and a maximum of 28 degrees.

The Kazinga Channel a 40km long connects Lake
George to Lake Edward. The channel and the two lakes are an ideal habitats to
many crocodiles, fish, birds and mammals. The bird species to find in this
place include the eagle, African fish eagle, African Morning dove, African
skimmer, bee-eater,  and many others. This
park has recorded number of  about 95
mammal species.

Queen Elizabeth National Park was preserved
to protect the wildlife and the natural beauty. There are eleven fishing
villages within the park where the Banyankole Bakiga and Bakonjo community
live. The melting glacier waters from the Ruwenzori Mountains are the main
source of water to Lake Edward and Lake George. These are channeled by the
mighty Kazinga Channel which flows to River Ishasha. Many hippos are seen
resting along these lakeshores.

Some of the activities to expect in this park include chimpanzee tracking, game
viewing, boat cruising, bird watching and photographing. You can also
participate in the short guided nature walks in the Maramagambo Forest where
you will have a chance to see various types of birds and if possible swing to
their sweet melodies. Because of a  wide range
of bird species, Queen Elizabeth National park is known as  the birders paradise and I believe many have
traveled to this park for this one reason. Within and around this park are very
good accommodation facilities ranging from a budget to a luxury rooms depending
on one's demands. A Uganda safari to this park will give you a great
opportunity to explore its beauty to the maximum. This will avail the chance
get to see an array of wild life and also enjoy the boat trip on the kazinga
channel. In addition, you can also visit the salt mines and learn how salt is
mined. The salt is mined from Lake Katwe and then transported to various towns
in Uganda and east Africa. Remember this is the only lake that can mine such
type of salt in all the east African countries.
