San Angel Inn at Epcot in the Walt Disney World Resort
Disney's San Angel Inn in the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot offers a hidden gem that mimics it's hidden location inside the Mayan pyramid in the World Showcase.
Offering authentic Mexican cuisine, the San Angel Inn resembles a 17th-century hacienda at the base of Mayan ruins. As you dine, your table's lit by candlelight and you hear the flowing water of the Three Cabelleros ride river, right next to the dining area. The ceiling of the Mexico Pavilion has been darkened and lit with "stars" to appear as though you're eating under a beautiful night sky in old Mexico. What could be more romantic?
Additionally, you have the market adjacent to the dining room that provides a background of festive sound to keep your meal lively! Mexican blankets, noisemakers, dolls, and other souvenirs can be picked up after your meal.
The San Angel Inn restaurant does require a more adventurous palate, however as the cuisine may not match with more modern Mexican tastes. In other words, this isn't Taco Bell.
Authentic Mexican cuisine offers guests to stretch themselves a bit, but not without reward. The food's excellent and the atmosphere couldn't be better.
Some examples of the entree offerings include Pollo A Las Rajas - grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onion strips, cream sauce, and fresh cheese, Puntas de Filete en Salsa Guajillo - Beef tenderloin tips sauteed with fresh onions and chile Guajillo sauce, served over corn tortillas, black beans, and fresh cheese, Mahi-Mahi a la Veracruzana - Grilled fillet of mahi-mahi served over white rice, prepared with capers, olives, bell peppers, Spanish onions, and tomatoes, seasoned with white wine and spices, Tampiquena Con Chilaquiles - Grilled beef tenderloin served with Chilaquiles (layers of fried corn tortilla, green toa chicken enchilada topped with ranchera sauce and esquites.
On top of the experience and great food, San Angel Inn offers something few other Disney Dining options offer. Less wait! Usually, the San Angel Inn has little or no wait, even if you're just walking up and don't have Advanced Dining Reservations with Disney. Many other restaurants in Epcot and around the Disney World Resort book up before a walk-up can even be an option. In most cases, you don't have to worry about this at San Angle Inn.
All three of these points make the San Angel Inn a quality option for your Disney Dining experience. Be sure to give it a try on your next Disney World vacation.
