If you answered yes, to any one of these questions, then your stuttering is controlling your life and not allowing you to show the world who you truly are! Don't let your stutters stop you from living your life!

It is easy to let a disability train us in an I can't or I shouldn't or I wouldn't be any good at mindset. And, if we have lived believing I can't or I shouldn't or I wouldn't be any good at because I stutter for any time, the challenge is all the greater to overcome one's stuttering.

The words of Terry McElhinney (now a famous champion kick-boxer who stuttered most of his life) are very motivational to someone who is battling their stutter:
"I want to prove that a lot of great things come from bad times and how having a stammer or disability can turn into a positive thing. You can turn your life around. Life might bounce us around a bit and could even capsize us but we have the strength and courage to climb back into the boat and steer it towards our chosen destination."

For Terry, the first step in overcoming his stuttering was to realize that he had the will, the inner-strength, to learn to control and overcome his stammering. For Terry, he had allowed his stutter to get the best of him for many years. In his later years of school, he went as far as to make a deal with his head-master that he would continue to go to class as long as no teacher asked him to speak. He now acknowledges that this "deal" he made with the head-master did more damage then it ever did good. When we let our disabilities, or or weaknesses control how we live, we have so little to live up to! Once Terry realized that he was so much more than his stammer, he had a goal to work towards-- he was beginning to realize that his true gifts as an athlete and teacher were being destroyed by his disability!

Once Terry McElhinney realized that his stuttering was destroying his chances at becoming a successful athelete, he began to work to study what he needed to do to overcome his stuttering. He decided that he wasn't going to allow his disability to stop him from becoming a champion kick-boxer. In Terry's attempt to stop stuttering, he began to acknowledge that the only way he could stop stuttering was to develop an I believe I can stop stuttering positive mindset. Without this, no therapy could possibly help him recover from his stuttering disability.

So, if you are ready to stop your stutters now, begin by saying to yourself:

"I KNOW I CAN CONTROL MY STUTTERING AND GET MY LIFE BACK."

Say this phrase over and over again and believe it. When you can say "I know I can control my stuttering and get my life back" positively and affirmatively and believe what you are saying is true, you will be on the path to recover from your stutter and take control of your healing and your life. If you start the healing process by first believing that you can recover from stuttering, the hard work of learning to control your stutters will come so much more easily and success will be yours. So, stop stuttering now and steer your boat to your chosen destination.
