Usually The Upside Is Greater Than The Downside
For a positive attitude you look on the bright side, think positive thoughts, imagine a positive outcome, right? But doesn't this conflict with managing expectations and not setting yourself up for failure by having high expectations which if you fail will make you feel miserable? The answer is no.
Let me explain, you can dwell on the possible positive outcome of a decision or action without expecting that it will happen.
Instead expect that the outcome will be that things will just carry on as before.
Most decisions are like that having a high upside if things go right and a relatively low cost if they don't produce the desired result.
For example, if you apply for a job or decide to place an article in Ezine, the positive outcome is getting the job or getting the article published.
There is no negative outcome, just a small cost in making the application or submitting the article.
What you need to consider is this, for most decisions you make in life the upside is greater than the downside.
Most of the bad things that happen in your life, like having an accident, somebody dying or getting ill, are mostly outside your control and you just have to accept them.
While it is not true to say that any decision is always better than no decision, it is usually the case, particularly if you consider that doing nothing is also a decision you can make.
So what is the answer to having a positive attitude? For most decisions the mindset should be 'nothing to loose and everything to gain' and not 'all or nothing'.
Then follow these simple rules: 1.
Dwell on the positive and imagine positive outcomes but expect things will continue as they are, if the outcomes are positive they will be unexpected joys 2.
Consider mistakes or setbacks as opportunities for learning 3.
Accept that bad things will happen to you from time to time and let them go when they do 4.
When you do something wrong, accept responsibility, truly repent, learn from the experience and then always forgive yourself 5.
Enjoy the process of achieving your goals as much as you can, if you cannot enjoy this process, you need to change your goals.
Finally I hope you enjoyed reading this article, if it helps to make your attitude more positive, in a small way it is helping to make the world a happier place.
Love and peace, Simon
