How to Plant Shasta Viburnum

    • 1). Dig a planting hole in a shady to partly shady area of the garden. It should be three times the width of the nursery pot in which the Shasta viburnum is growing and the same depth.

    • 2). Slope the sides of the planting hole so that they are wider at the top and slope toward the bottom.

    • 3). Scrape the inside walls of the hole with a pitchfork. Use your hands to lightly pack the soil at the bottom of the hole.

    • 4). Remove the Shasta viburnum from its pot and gently shake the potting soil from the roots. You don't need to remove all of it.

    • 5). Place the rootball at the bottom of the hole, fill it with soil and water until the water puddles at the base of the Shasta viburnum. When the water drains, water again, slowly, saturating the soil.

    • 6). Spread a 2-inch layer of mulch on the soil around the Shasta, 2 inches from the base of the plant and out to its widest point.
