How to Plant Ylang-Ylang Trees
- 1). Plant a Ylang-ylang tree in a spot that gets full sun, has decent drainage and provides enough room for the tree to grow to its mature height of 30 to 60 feet. Ylang-ylang trees can grow with other plants, but may cause too much shade for sun-loving vegetation.
- 2). Mix the top 3 feet of your garden soil with light potting soil and compost to produce a mix of equal parts garden soil, potting soil and compost. Ylang-ylang trees do best in rich soil, though it's not required. Amending the soil provides your ylang-ylang tree with a good foundation for healty growth.
- 3). Prepare the roots of the ylang-ylang tree by watering it thoroughly before transplanting.
- 4). Dig a hole big enough to contain the root ball of the ylang-ylang seedling. Gently pull the tree from its pot and place it into the hole, keeping the roots out of the soil for as little time as possible. Spread the roots in the hole. Cover them with soil and pack it down gently.
- 5). Water the area thoroughly, and maintain moisture for the tree. Ylang-ylang trees are drought-tolerant but do better with deep weekly waterings.
