Fourth of July scrapbook pages lend a patriotic touch to your baby scrapbook album. While your baby is likely to be frightened by loud fireworks, she will probably enjoy taking part in the picnics, parades, and other outdoor activities associated with this summer holiday. Keep your camera handy to snap a few pictures of your All-American Baby!

Tips for Taking 4th of July Pictures

Obviously, you'll want to dress your baby in red, white, and blue for your 4th of July photo shoot.

Many stores sell special onesies with holiday designs, but anything that mimics the colors of the flag is going to be a good choice.

Cute photo props for funny 4th of July pictures include small flags, felt Uncle Sam Hats, paper lanterns, and pinwheels. Everyday items with seasonally appropriate colors such as a child's red wagon, a wicker picnic basket with a red gingham lining, or a patchwork blanket made with old blue jeans are also good picks.

Many families celebrate the 4th of July with a picnic, so this can be a nice time to get some action shots of your baby enjoying new foods for the first time. Pictures of baby enjoying apple pie, watermelon, an ice cream cone, or a popsicle for the first time make for a fun summer themed scrapbook layout.

The best time of day to take pictures outside is usually either early in the morning or in the late afternoon. However, you will want to consider your baby's daily routine as well. Interrupting your child's nap to take pictures is never a good idea.

Crying, cranky babies make for poor photo subjects!

4th of July Scrapbook Ideas

Fourth of July themed accents are readily available at any major craft or scrapbook supply store, but you don't necessarily need to purchase any special supplies to make a memorable 4th of July scrapbook page for your baby album. One fun way to create backgrounds for 4th of July scrapbook pages is to make a flag design by piecing together scraps of red, white, and blue patterned papers. You could also try doodling star shapes along the side of your page to make a border, adding color with chalk or colored pencils. To make your own firecracker embellishments, trim the bottom of chipboard arrows with zig-zag decorative scissors and add a trail of decorative stitching to the bottom.

If you're interested in digital scrapbooking, Shabby Princess and Two Peas in a Bucket both have excellent free scrapbook kits with 4th of July themes. Daisy Trail also has a cute American Holidays kit, although you will need to download the free compact version of Serif's CraftArtist before you can use these graphics.

Some possible titles for 4th of July scrapbook layouts include:
  • Mommy's Little Firecracker
  • Proud to be an American
  • Food, Fun, and Fireworks
  • Hurray for the Red, White, and Blue
  • Stars and Stripes Forever
  • Fun on the Fourth
