    • 1). Unplug the refrigerator from the wall.

    • 2). Remove the front cover of the refrigerator icemaker using a screwdriver or by unfastening the clips that hold it into place. Inspect the inside module directly behind the face for any broken parts that may need replacement.

    • 3). Remove the ice bin, shelves and any other inside components by removing their screws. Note the position of every piece to prevent problems later. Label the screws to keep from getting them mixed up.

    • 4). Remove the back access panel to expose the water inlet valve. Turn off the water supply at the saddle valve on the pipe exposed when you remove the back access panel.

    • 5). Disconnect the water inlet valve from the refrigerator by removing the screws or sockets that hold the saddle in place if the valve is leaking.

    • 6). Set the multimeter to RX10. Touch the probes of your multimeter to the terminals on the valve. If the multimeter reads over 1,000 ohms, the valve is bad. Contact the manufacturer of the refrigerator for a replacement part. Note the serial number or model number of the unit, which is usually on a faceplate inside the refrigerator. Install the new valve according to the instructions that come with the replacement part.

    • 7). Turn off the water going to the refrigerator by turning off the inlet valve. Remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator if the valve is working properly and place the end into a bucket. Turn the water on again and check the flow into the bucket. If the water flow is low, remove the tubing using a pair of pliers and replace it. If the water flow is good, replace the valve.
