The Work-at-Home Attitude Adjustment
I've had people who were considering quitting their brick-and-mortar job in favor of starting their own online business or working from home for others on their personal computers say to me, "I can't WAIT until I can work only when I FEEL like working! I can't WAIT until I am my own boss! I can't WAIT until I can quit punching a clock!"
Okay, it's true. You CAN set your own working hours when you work from home. You are not required to punch a clock. But I'm really not too sure about that "working only when I feel like it" idea. I guess it would depend on how often you felt like working and how long that feeling lasted whether the idea is viable or not.
Here are the cold hard facts about working from home:
1. Out in the brick-and-mortar world, you likely worked eight hours a day, five days a week. When you work from home, it's a lot more likely that you will work 10 or 12 hours a day and all seven days of the week, at least in the beginning. If you expect to work less, keep your day job.
2. Yes, you can set your own work hours, but work hours do have to be set, and you do have to abide by those work hours.
3. When you worked at a job out in the brick-and-mortar world, you got your paycheck whether you had actually accomplished anything or not. When you work on the computer at home if you don't produce, you don't make money. It really is just that simple.
Working from home is not like summer vacation when you were in high school. You really can't do what you want to do whenever you want to do it €" unless what you want to do is sit in front of your computer and work.
All this may sound harsh and difficult for some, but once you make the attitude adjustment and the proper mindset shift, you'll be well on your way to being your own boss working from home enjoying all the perks that comes from owning your own home based business.
