Don"t Get Comfortable, Get Busy

For anyone pursuing a dream, getting comfortable is the first step to failure. This may seem like a contradiction since being comfortable is something everybody strives for. Being comfortable means that our basic needs have been met and that we can exist pleasantly, without having to worry about anything. Being comfortable comes in many forms. We can of course be physically comfortable, but we can also be comfortable financially, romantically, emotionally or even comfortable in our careers. But unless your only goal in life is to simply be comfortable, it's a dangerous place to be.

The reason is that our comfort level is far below what we're really capable of achieving. Now there is nothing necessarily wrong with being comfortable and feeling satisfied at that level of achievement. If it brings you happiness, and being comfortable is all that you strive for, then you have reached your goals and it would appear that you're set. The question to ask yourself however is whether being comfortable today is a short-sighted approach to tomorrow.

Most people have dreams and aspirations about great things. These might be dreams about the future, or about changes they'd like to see now. The beautiful thing about dreams is that they are uniformly achievable. As a human being, if you can dream it, you can do it. Of course, making your dreams into reality comes with a price. You will need to expend effort--sometimes a tremendous amount of effort--while you pursue your dreams. And effort is hard work, which means that while you're working hard, you may not be all that comfortable. The comfort comes from knowing that you're building a better life, a better future. You're will to take some short-term pain to achieve long-term gain.

Don't sell yourself short. If you are comfortable today, you've been successful with your life to this point. You set goals for yourself and you achieved them. Perhaps bigger and brighter goals are unnecessary, which is something that only you can decide. The question that you need to ask yourself is whether being comfortable today will enable you to be comfortable again tomorrow. You also need to revisit your dreams, because again, they can be yours if you really want them. When it comes right down to it, success ultimately depends on how willing you are to step out of your comfort zone. So if you want more from your life, don't get comfortable, get busy.
