Large Tropical Trees
- The tropical almond tree (Terminalia catappa) grows to a height of 130 feet. It produces nutty fruits which taste very similar to almonds. In some countries the leaves are used to treat ailments including sickle cell disorders.
- The Andean wax palm (Ceroxylon quindiuense) grows to a height of 200 feet and has a trunk which measures 16 inches in diameter and is gray and waxy. The tree produces orange and red fruits which are nearly an inch in width. The wax from the tree used to be used in the making of candles and the tree is the national tree of Columbia.
- The rainbow eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Deglupta) grows to a height of 197 feet and has a smooth bark that is yellow and brown in color. This tree prefers a cooler tropical climate. The tree has many yellow and white flowers.
