What to Put in Wedding Announcements for Newspapers
- A photograph of the bride and groom in their wedding attire, or a close-up head and shoulders professional shot is an eye-catching addition to a wedding announcement. Due to some newspaper deadlines, couples may elect to have these photos taken before the wedding. Choose a photo that looks good in black and white. If you are submitting an original print to the newspaper, make sure it will be returned after publication.
- Wedding announcements typically contain some biographical information about the bride and groom. Include a few sentences mentioning where the couple is from and the names and locations of their parents. Some wedding announcements mention when and where the bride and groom went to high school and college and where they are currently employed. If the couple has children, their names and ages could be included as well.
- The main part of the wedding announcement describes the wedding. The date and location of the wedding are the most important details. Consider including descriptions of the bride's dress, what type of flowers she carried and the colors worn by the bridesmaids. If you have space available, list the names of the bridal party and officiate as well. Including plenty of details about the event is a nice touch for friends and family unable to attend.
- If space is not limited, finish the wedding announcement with some information about post-wedding events and the couple's future plans. Further details might include where the reception was held, a short description of the wedding cake and what outfit the bride changed into when the couple departed for their honeymoon. Mention where the couple went for their honeymoon and where they will reside upon their return.
