Place Cards and Tea Parties

You have planned everything down to the last detail.
Your table looks lovely.
The aroma coming from the kitchen is unmistakably inviting.
There is chatter among the women as they sit in your living room waiting for your signal to come to the table.
As they approach, women shuffle positions and the question is raised, "Where do you want us to sit?" This temporary confusion can be solved in advance with place cards.
Whether you have a dinner party or tea party, formal or informal, a small gathering or a large event, place cards preempt issues and usher in a smooth entrance to your party.
Place cards avoid having a person left out as those who know each other jockey to sit next to each other.
Giving assigned seats can be a strategy, with talkative guests scattered around the table rather than close together.
If you are coordinating a large event and hostesses are assigned tables, it designates a hostess' spot.
Cardboard tents are the traditional place cards seen at weddings or banquets.
Place cards do not have to be expensive or difficult to make.
With some creativity and minimal expense, place cards can be used at your small home tea party or large women's group event and add to table décor.
Use a colorful pen to personalize traditional place cards.
Use a rubber stamp, a small bow or an appropriate sticker as an embellishment.
Have a fresh flower at each place, with a person's name on an attached tag.
Tag a name to any object that is small enough to be placed with your table setting:a Christmas ornament, a small box filled with candy, a tea light wrapped in tulle, or something that coordinates with your theme or color.
Tie your napkins with ribbon and attach a name card.
Tie a ribbon with a name card to your stemware.
Use a small picture frame and include a quote or Bible verse and the person's name.
For larger events, use the name of the event.
Use your computer.
If this is a large event where women take notes from a speaker's talk, use a pen with a nametag.
Place cards add an extra embellishment to a table, but also decrease the shuffle and discomfort some guests may sense in trying to find a seat.
