3 Simple Steps to Forgiveness
Forgiveness is one of the most powerful enabling forces in the universe and the lack of it is the biggest obstacle to peace in the world.
Without forgiveness society disintegrates into a hotchpotch of bitterness and mutual recrimination.
So here are three simple steps to forgiveness and a better, more contented spirituality: 1)Understand that we are all of us to blame for the things that go wrong in the world.
Whoever or whatever is the object of your anger is no further from perfection than you are.
2)The past is a forgotten island, surrounded by a sea of regret.
Sail across it and arrive on the continent of the present, where anything is possible and all things are new.
3)Throw yourself into the Now of your relationships.
Every time you see an old acquaintance, pretend they don“t have a past with you.
Judge them afresh.
Remember the first time you fell in love with your partner.
You noticed things then that you have forgotten now.
Turn it around.
Forget the stuff that disappoints you, and learn to see what is lovable.
Anything is possible in an eternal present.
If the past is forgotten, the future is full of hope.
Conflict is built on the ghosts of the past.
When you are unable to forgive, you tie yourself to ghosts long dead who keep you in a mummified state, preventing you from reaching your living potential.
Whatever it was that upset you then, persists to upset you afresh each day if you let it, like a virus breaking down your resistance to evil.
Acts of vengeance join hands and lead to hell.
Break the chain.
Lift up your arms to Heaven and be forgiven, just as you forgive.
Break the chain and change direction.
Forget about the land you lost, the money you were cheated out of, the violation you suffered.
If you do not let it go, it will continue to haunt you and finally kill you.
Far better to forgive and forget.
