The colors of the Italian flag are red, white and green. Use this color palette as an inspiration in your wedding decorations. Hang red, white, and green balloons, streamers and tissue paper garlands. For a centerpiece, place bouquets of red and white flowers with bunches of greenery on each table and or red, white and green candles. Fly an Italian flag. Pass out tricolored party favors. Serve red, white and green beverages and food, and a wedding cake with red, white and green flowers and icing.

    Tuscany Time

Another idea is incorporate always-popular Tuscan design. Tuscany is an area in Central Italy considered the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and well-known for picturesque countryside landscapes and influence on high culture and interior design. Decorate for your wedding using tablecloths, flowers, even tents and colored lights in Tuscan colors: brown, which represents the earth; blue, which represents the sky; green, which represents olives and trees; and gold, which represents the sun. Also, adding stenciling or frescoes (a design put on fresh plaster) to the furniture or walls is a Tuscan technique; have this look recreated on your wedding cake.

    See the Sights

    • Use famous Italian landmarks such as the Coliseum in your decorations.the coliseum image by Pierre Landry from Fotolia.com

For a less formal wedding, a fun idea is to decorate for your wedding using famous Italian landmarks as the theme. There are the Roman aqueducts, Mount Vesuvius, Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Coliseum, the Sistine Chapel, the Statue of David, The Pantheon and myriad other attractions and destinations. At each table, have a centerpiece featuring one of these landmarks. Or hang pictures on the walls. Have a wedding cake made that looks like the Alps, which run through the northern part of Italy, or that features Michelangelo's famous ceiling mural.
