    • 1). Open your FTP program. Select "Open Connection" to connect to your site. Enter the name of your website in "Host Name," then enter the FTP user name and password you set up when you first signed up for your website. Click "OK" to finish.

    • 2). Navigate to the folder in which Zen Cart is installed. This may be a folder marked "Zen Cart" or your root folder. Click on the "includes" folder, then "templates." This will give you a list of templates that your site can use. Find the template you are using and click on the folder. Download this entire folder to your local drive to edit it. Do this by dragging the folder to your desktop or desired folder on your computer.

    • 3). Locate the folder called "CSS." This will have the CSS properties of your theme. CSS code can be used to change most aspects of your theme's appearance, including font and background color, font sizes and the size of your content.

    • 4). Scroll through your template's CSS files. These will typically be marked with what they represent. For instance "#header" will control the physical properties of your Zen Cart header. Change the code based on what you want your site to look like. Make sure to save the file and upload it to your FTP when you are finished.

    • 5). Open PHP files for bigger structural customizations. If you do not know how to program PHP code, you should probably stick to CSS. If you do know PHP, then try opening the various PHP files located in your "includes" folder, such as "header.php" or "front-page.php," representing the different pages on your website. You can change these files to any kind of layout you want. Make sure to save the files and upload them to your FTP when you are finished.
