Requiem For Hillary Clinton"s Campaign - The Devil Is In The Details
Presidential campaigns are chock-full of strategies, media events and never ending details..
and the Devil is in the Details, or more accurately, staring over Hillary's left shoulders in Ohio.
Hillary Clinton appeared before an excited throng at my old high-school gym in St.
Clairsville, Ohio, two days ago.
The crowd, the ubiquitous secret-service presence, and the press, provided for a ratified air to the old gymnasium where I once did wind sprints inphysical education classes and teenage basketball gladiators pounded the wood floor.
Yet there, on the wall, behind the presidential wannabe, was the high-school mascot, the Devil, red and resplendent in all his fiery glory, grinning down as if he were her political running-mateabout to whip down and take a bite out of the masses cowering on the bleachers.
The advance people forgot to tarp up the very obvious and looming 10 foot- wide devil mascot painted on the white walls of the high school gymnasium, and the campaign managers were mad as hell.
It was the 'five-thousand pound elephant' in the room, yet, shockingly, no one on her advance team seemed to notice.
Amidst recent allegations and innuendo regarding the surfacing of a photograph of opponent Barack Obama in Muslim garb, one would think that the Clinton Campaign, particularly concerned about the Senator's performance in Ohio these last few days, would have taken special care to not place the senator in any negative light.
It certainly made for a wildly amusing and surreal backdrop, considering that the woman who wanted to be the leader of the free world was grandstanding beneath his lavishly nasty grin, in of all places, my home high-school gym! The whole scenario couldn't have been better conjured up had it been only in my dreams after a night of heavy drinking and binging om pizza.
Within hours, the photo of Hillary and the Devil had been around the world, placed on news blogs and major news sites.
It made for great news fodder and perhaps a perfect vignette for a shadowy Rod Serling offering some sage advice...
" For as we allknow, the Devil is indeed in the Details, and a few days ago, he proved the point in, of all places, the high-school gym, in St.
Clairsville, Ohio.
