How do I Highlight Hair with Two Dramatic Colors?
- 1). Apply a line of vaseline on the hairline on your forehead, to your ears and any other area that might need protection from getting stained. Put on a pair of protective gloves, available at any beauty supply store.
- 2). Pull away all the hair that you do not wish to dye and secure it using hair clips. If the hair dye needs mixing, do so according to the directions on the box. If it comes pre-mixed, empty it into a bowl that you do not mind potentially staining.
- 3). Cut multiple rectangles of aluminum foil to hold each section of highlighted hair. The foils should be 2 inches wide and as many inches long as needed to completely cover a strip of your hair. Create as many foils as the number of streak highlights you would like to create in your hair.
- 4). Take a section of the hair that you want to highlight and place it over one of the foil rectangles. Apply the first color of hair dye to the section from root to tip using a hair color brush. Wrap the aluminum foil up and around the dyed strands, folding the edges up and over, and the end upward to secure. Usea bobby pin to secure the foil and keep it from opening out. Repeat until you have used as much of the first color as you wish.
- 5). Apply the second color in the same way, using the foils to hold each section of hair and applying the dye with a hair color brush. Wrap a plastic bag around your head to create heat and allow the color to penetrate further. Allow the dye to set for the amount of time listed on the container, usually somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes.
- 6). Rinse the hair until the water runs clear. Dry and style as usual.
