How to Stain Concrete Edging to Look Like Brick
- 1). Pour thin-set mortar into a bucket and add water from a garden hose. Mix with a paddle mixer until a peanut butter-like consistency forms.
- 2). Spread the wet thin-set mortar over the concrete edging and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Stamp the thin-set mortar with a brick to create a brick texture and outline. Allow the mortar to dry for 24 hours.
- 3). Stick painter's tape over the "joints" you created on the wet thin-set mortar. This will prevent stain from getting on the joints, and the joints will look like white-ash mortar joints after staining the concrete edging.
- 4). Lay plastic sheeting on the ground and around the concrete to avoid staining the lawn or anything nearby.
- 5). Pour masonry or concrete stain in a color of your choosing into a paint sprayer and lightly spray a coat of stain onto the concrete edging. Allow the stain to dry for an hour or two, then check to see if it's dark enough.
- 6). Apply a second coat of stain to darken, if desired. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
- 7). Apply a coat of concrete sealer to the newly stained "bricks," using the paintbrush. Allow to dry two to three hours to finish.
