Installing Badger Garbage Disposals
- 1). Turn the power supply off for the kitchen at the breaker box. Run the power line for the garbage disposal by connecting it to the kitchen circuit. Red or black wires are hot, and the neutral wire will be white or gray. The ground wire is green or may be a bare wire. Install the toggle switch near the sink for easy access when you need to use the garbage disposal. Connect the wire to the toggle switch and then to the disposal. Install wire nuts on the wire splices by twisting them on.
- 2). Disconnect the existing P-trap from the drain line with a pipe wrench. Remove the retaining ring from the existing drain basket with the pipe wrench. Remove the drain basket from the sink. Spread plumber’s putty around the bottom of the rim on the new disposal drain. Install the disposal drain into the sink bowl. Install the retaining ring and tighten it by hand. Install the new P-trap into the drain line and tighten the collars with the pipe wrench.
- 3). Install the cover on the wire box on the disposal and tighten the retaining screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Lift the Badger garbage disposal up to the drain and push it into place. Place the screwdriver into the loop on the locking ring and secure the disposal in place by turning the ring clockwise. Twist the garbage disposal around so that it lines up with the new P-trap.
- 4). Insert the P-trap into the opening on the Badger garbage disposal. Tighten the screws on the retaining cap with the screwdriver. Turn the power on at the breaker box for the kitchen circuit. Run cold water into the disposal and flip the toggle switch to the "On" position to test the new disposal.
