How Many Disney Parks Are in the World?
- Disney runs 11 theme parks at five locations worldwide. Complementing the parks and resorts are the Disney Cruise Line (since 1998); the Disney Vacation Club (opened in 1991); Adventures by Disney (since 2005); the World of Disney stores (since 1996) in New York, Orlando and Anaheim; and Walt Disney Imagineering. Walt Disney Imagineering was founded in 1952 and is the think tank and developer behind all Disney parks, resorts and attractions.
- The original Disneyland resort features two theme parks, Disneyland Park and Disney's California Adventure, and spans 510 acres. The resort employs 20,000 cast members.
- The largest Disney resort with 25,000 acres is located near Orlando. It features four theme parks, the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom, and two water parks, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach. Disney's Wide World of Sports is also located at Walt Disney World Resort. It employs 60,000 cast members.
- The smallest of the Disneyland Resorts--311 acres--opened in 2005 and employs 6,000 cast members. (see reference 1 and 3)
- The first European resort is situated on 4,800 acres in Paris and features two parks, Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. There are 12,300 people working at Disneyland Resort Paris.
- The first Disney resort outside the United States was built in Japan in 1983. The two parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea, are spread out on 494 acres and employ 20,000 cast members.
