How to Remove the Mesh Curtain From a Fireplace
- 1). Place a piece of plastic or drop cloth around the mantel in front of your fireplace. This will help keep soot from staining your mantel or flooring.
- 2). Close the mesh curtain if necessary. Use a stiff-bristle brush to remove any large pieces of soot or embers.
- 3). Check for clips or screws holding the rod for the mesh curtain in place. Remove these with the appropriate tool if present.
- 4). Grab the rod supporting the mesh curtain firmly by each end.
- 5). Lift the road and mesh curtain straight up, raising the rod until it clears the mounting brackets and pulling it toward you. Slowly (so as to not displace soot) set the curtain and rod down on the plastic sheet or drop cloth.
- 6). Unscrew any ends on the rod securing the mesh curtain in place. Slide the mesh curtain off the rod.
