Rash, Age 11 and Younger-Check Your Symptoms Call your doctor now or seek immediate medical care if:
  • Your child has signs of infection, such as:
    • Increased pain, swelling, warmth, or redness around the rash.
    • Red streaks leading from the rash.
    • Pus draining from the rash.
    • A fever.
  • Your child's rash gets worse and your child starts to feel bad, with fever, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting, or other problems.
  • Your child has new blisters or bruises, or the rash spreads and looks like a sunburn.
  • Your child has shortness of breath.
  • Your child has joint aches or body aches with the rash.

Watch closely for changes in your child's health, and be sure to contact your doctor if:
  • The rash does not clear up after 2 to 3 weeks of home treatment.
  • You think the rash is a reaction to a medicine your child is using.
