How to Make a Heavy Fastener for a Purse
- 1). Cut a fabric strap that is at least 8 inches long. Sew one end of the strap to the top edge of one side of the purse, in the exact middle. Use a needle threaded with strong nylon thread, and create tiny, tight stitches.
- 2). Measure the width of your fabric strap. Cut another piece of fabric strap that is 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer than the width of this fabric strap. This small piece will act as the loop that the longer fabric strap goes through.
- 3). Pin the small piece of the fabric strap to the top edge of the opposite side of the purse in the exact middle. Sew one end of the fabric strap to the top edge of the purse, using tiny, tight stitches and then sew the other end of this small piece of strap to the top edge of the purse. When finished, you will have a loop that you can easily thread your long fabric strap in and out of.
- 4). Sew a large, heavy button or bead to the end of your long fabric strap. The bead should complement the decorative qualities of the purse, but be small enough to fit through the loop you've made.
- 5). Sew another decorative button 4 inches or so beneath the loop you sewed. This decorative button should complement the entire look and style of your purse. The fabric strap will thus go through the loop and around this button to give your purse a heavy, secure fastener.
