If you have damage in your back that requires medical attention sometime in the near future, you are probably going to have to put up with some pain until you can start with physical therapy or before your surgery can take place.
There is often a wait of a few months, at least, before your situation will be fixed.
In the meantime, you have a few choices for relief for lower back pain.
You can take medications, but they do not always work well.
You have to find small ways to lessen the pain and make some adjustments to your life for the time being.
One of the most common reasons why you need relief for lower back pain is when you have a herniated or crushed disk.
The disk is not painful, but it will float around in your spine, pressing on the spinal cord.
This causes quite a bit of pain.
If you understand that this is what is happening, you can then make some adjustments.
For one, you have to take note of what positions hurt the most so you can avoid them.
You may sit okay in your recliner, but not so well on a hard bench.
You will soon learn how to sit to avoid pain.
Keep the line of your spine in mind when choosing how and where to sit.
You should also think about how you sleep for relief for lower back pain.
You may be okay to sleep flat on your back or stomach, or perhaps you have less pain in the morning if you sleep on your side.
Side sleepers may find more relief if they put a pillow between their thighs while sleeping.
This keeps the spine in a better line so that the already damaged disk is not being pressed on even harder.
If you wake up in odd positions that are causing you morning pain, find a way to stay in one place, even if it means lining your body with pillows so you can't roll over at night.
Relief for lower back pain often comes in movement.
If you are in a position that hurts, move to another.
Walking helps, but running may hurt.
If you are sitting and it hurts, get up and walk around the house.
If you are walking and in pain, find a comfortable seat to take the strain off your lower back.
It is all about moving when needed.
Lying in bed all day or trying to stay in one chair will cause more pain than it relieves.
You should also find the best way to move from one position to another so that you are not making your back pain worse.
Be careful with medications as a means for relief for lower back pain.
There are going to be times when you have to take something, but see if you can go with out meds once in a while.
The last thing you want is to be dependent on those pills.
You may get too comfortable with that and put off your surgery that you really need.
Medications can have adverse effects on your body that can also harm you in the long run.
Try to only take them for back pain relief when you really need them.
