How to Run Memory Scanner
- 1). Download the Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. Save the file in an area where you are able to easily access it, such as the desktop.
- 2). Double-click "mtinst.exe" and then click "Save CD image to disc." This will create an .iso file that you can burn to a blank CD.
- 3). Open your CD-burning program and click "Open file." Select the .iso file that you just generated. Your software must support the .iso file format. Click "Burn" or "Write to CD" once you've successfully opened the file.
- 4). Change the boot sequence of your motherboard by entering the BIOS settings and changing the sequence manually. Press the BIOS menu button repeatedly, which will be either "F2," "F8," "F10" or "Delete" keys. Pressing the button repeatedly will bring up the BIOS menu.
- 5). Navigate the BIOS menu until you've found the settings that alter the boot sequence. Using the arrows keys or the "+" and "-" keys, change the boot sequence until the CD drive is the first drive to boot. Exit and save the settings. The system will reboot automatically.
- 6). Boot from the disc to load the diagnostic tool. Allow the tool to run a check on your system memory. This may take a while to check all the sectors, depending on how much memory you have in your system.
- 7). Check the memory results and decide whether there is any action that you'll need to take. Running the tool again might reveal more errors or occurrences.
