Christmas Letters

• Christmas time offers the opportunity to write letters to strengthen writing skills. A letter to Santa is a classic option that fits for this age group. If you want kids to think more about others, have them write a letter on behalf of someone else. For example, a child might write about her friend who deserves a present because she is so caring. After the Christmas holiday, consider writing thank you notes. The kids choose a gift they received and write a thank you note to the gift giver.
  
  

Christmas Cards

• Christmas cards work well for kindergarten writing activities because the writing is usually limited. This gives those with limited writing skills a chance to practice without being overwhelmed. Fold construction paper in half to create the card. Kids can draw pictures on the card and write a short message. To help kids with spelling, write a few common greeting card messages on the board as a reference. Encourage the kids to make the cards for someone they know so they can distribute them after the project is complete.
  
  

Wish List

• A wish list is another good Christmas writing activity for kindergartners. The kids simply write a list of the presents they want for Christmas. • For this writing project, each student will receive a piece of blank paper. The kids can write a sentence that describes a favorite Christmas memory or family traditions they observe each year. Encourage them to draw a picture to illustrate the memory as well. Compile all of the Christmas memory drawings and sentences into a classroom book. The kids get to see how their classmates celebrate Christmas while sharing their own traditions.
  
  

Invitation

• If you're planning a Christmas party, let the kids write the invitations. This is particularly relevant if you plan to invite the parents to the party. Write the information on the board as a reference. The kids can write the details on a piece of paper in a Christmas color. Add stickers or drawings by the students to make the invitation more personalized. You can also give the invitations to other staff members you'd like to attend the party.
