4 Tips to Find the Right Engine Lift for Your Garage

Maybe you want to swap out your cars engine, or just lift a heavy load in your garage.
You need to be thinking about the best solution to solve your problem.
An engine lift is the way to go, but the problem is that there are so many different options to choose from.
Some of these options include:
  • Chain Hoist
  • Chain Hoist with an A-Frame

  • Folding Engine Hoist
  • Hoist with telescopic legs
So now you know what there is to choose from, here are a few tips to allow you to make the best decision.
Tip 1 - Know How Much Space You Have to Work With So it's not a one size fits all, each one of the options are designed to be used in various different spaces.
If you are working in an area that has limited floor space you will want to start looking at either a chain hoist that can be mounted from a bar installed on the ceiling or one of the foldable engine hoists that are available.
Tip 2 - Know The Distance Between The Front Tyres If you are wanting to pull an engine, one consideration that needs to be made is whether the folding engine lift that you are choosing will fit between the two front tyres of the vehicle.
If it does not, you may want to investigate a ceiling mounted chain hoist, or even a chain hoist with an A-Frame.
Tip 3 - Consider the Size of the Engine Lift When Folded Folding engine lifts compress down to a much smaller space than you would think.
Many of them range from right down to the smallest being around the 4" mark.
However, some of the larger ones can get up to around 60".
Tip 4 - What About Accessories Buying the right engine lift is all well and good however you may want to think about some of the accessories that go with it.
One in particular being what's called a 'load leveller'.
A load leveller does the job that it sounds like it does, and that is to distribute the weight evenly across the engine you are lifting, and make sure that the engine doesn't tip and put strain on the lift.
