Grade 1 and Grade 5 fraction

Introduction for fractions:

A fraction is a number that can represent part of a whole. The earliest fractions were reciprocals of integers: ancient symbols representing one part of two, one part of three, one part of four, and so on. A much later development were the common or "vulgar" fractions which are still used today (`1/2` , `5/8` , `3/4` , etc.) and which consist of a numerator and a denominator.

In 5th grade, fraction comes under the unit number system. In fraction we learn what fraction is , types of fraction, Equivalent fraction, Comaprison of fraction, Addition of fractional numbers, Subtraction of fractional numbers, Multiplication of fractional numbers and division of fractional numbers.

Help on 5th grade fraction:

Fraction denotes a part from where the object has divided into many parts.

fraction

In the above diagram, 8 equal parts are given. Out of that three are coloured. This can be writen as `3/8` .

In numeral, `3/8` is eritten as three eighths

There are three types of fraction. Proper fraction, Improper fraction and mixed fraction.

Proper fraction:  Consider the fraction `1/3`

What does it convey? An object id divided into three equal parts and we took off one from it from the same object.

Grade 1 fraction problems on Addition and substraction:

Grade 1 problems 1. Add the two fractions `30/3` and `40/3`

    Solution:

The given two fractions `30/3` and `40/3`

                                           =`30/3` +`40/3`

                                           =`(30+40)/3`

                                            =`70/3`

                    This can be simplified has

                                        =23.3

Grade 1 problems 2. Add the two fractions `50/4` and `40/4`

     Solution:

The given two fractions `50/4` and `40/4`

                                         =`50/4` +`40/4`

                                        =`(50+40)/4`

                                       =`90/4`

                        This can be simplified has

                                        = 22.5

Grade 1 problems 3. Subtract two fraction `11/12` and `7/12`

       Solution:

The two given fractions are `11/2` and `7/12`

                                   = `11/12` -`7/12`

                                  = ` (11-7)/12`

                                  = `4/12`

This can be reduced further as ` 1/3`

Grade 1 problems on Multiplication of fraction:

Grade 1 problems 1. Multiply the fractions` 50/4` and `60/4` and reduce the final answer if possible

            Solution:-

Given we need to multiply the fractions`50/4` and`60/4`

The above fractions can be multiplied using the formula `(a*c)/(b*d)` .

                            Here a = 50, b = 4, c= 60, d= 4.

                              = `(a*c)/(b*d) `

=`(50*60)/(4*4)` by solving it we get

                           =`3000/8`

It can be reduced further as

                           = 375

Grade 1 problems 2. Multiply the fractions` 60/4` and `70/4` and reduce the final answer if possible

      Solution:-

Given we need to multiply the fractions`60/4` and`70/4`

The above fractions can be multiplied using the formula `(a*c)/(b*d).`

                          Here a = 60, b = 4, c= 70, d= 4.

                          =` (a*c)/(b*d)`

=`(60*70)/(4*4)` by solving it we get

                         =`4200/8`

It can be reduced further as

                        = 525

Grade 1 problem on equialent fraction and reduction of fraction:

Grade 1 problems 1 Find equivalent fraction for` 5/6`

      Solution:

To find equivalent fraction we need to multiply numerator and denominator by same number

Denominator is 6 and the numerator is 5

Multiply denominator and numerator by 2

                                  = `(5*2)/(6*2)`

                                  = `10/12`

So the equivalent fraction of ` 5/6 ` is `10/12`

 Grade 1 problems 2 Reduce the fraction` 7/14`

         Solution:

                   The given fraction is

                           = `7/14`

It can be reduced further as

               14 can be written as 7 * 2 and 7 can be written as 7 *1

                      = `(7*1)/(7*2)`

By crossing out 7 and 7 we get

                    = `1/2`
