I am convinced social sites such as Facebook have made the gregarious nature of men to be even stronger.
It is now easy to follow a group of people who share some characters such as family members, school mates or workmates.
While this has the positive aspect of it because it allows people to meet or reunite, it also has the negative aspect.
This risk involves the fear of people who do not want to associate with being able to follow you and look you up.
There are many ways by which people are able to look for you online and find you.
They would even be able to find your current and previous employers, residence, the car you last owned and your family.
It is all in the necessary evil that we end up with.
Just because you want to network with friends and family on Facebook, you expose your identity to search people.
If you have ever done some work online or a report of a project where you have worked is posted online, then you it is easy for whoever is looking for you to find you.
A simple Google search will reveal your first and last name and the various activities that you have been involved in.
Because some website registrations require that you post your address, it means that a person looking for you may find you pretty easily.
To outwit whoever is looking for you, you will need to take the following precautions: Never post your unique names: the search engines use your first and last names as key words.
This means that if you have a unique first or last name, it would be very easy for a search engine search as the Google and Yahoo to find you.
Therefore anyone who is looking for you will be able to find you pretty easily.
However, if you have a common name, it would take the next level of search by the whoever is looking for you to be able to find you.
Always keep changing your email address: this is important so that people who are looking for you will not be able to trace your address.
This can easily expose you to hackers who may be bent on causing trouble for you.
Password should not be predictable: your password to email address or other accounts in the internet is an important thing which must be kept secret.
Those who are looking for you will use predictable passwords such as the date of birth to find access to your private information.
Manage your reputation online: in some cases you may not be able to prevent those who are looking for you.
The next option left is to make sure that any negative information posted by those who are looking for you do not find their way to the public.
This you can do by employing special program that would roam the interne and if they find your name and predetermined key words, they would rate the negative ones low and therefore avoid visibility.
Remember - anything and everything you post online will be available forever for anyone to read.
So next time you think about posting something out there think, Who is looking for me online today? What can they find? How can I keep my identity private.
