Gather cleaning supplies. Wear protective clothing while cleaning mold off of surfaces in your home or when handling clothing or other fabrics that have mildewed. - 2). Prepare the room for cleanup to prevent spread of mold spores to other areas. Seal off heat and air vents. Open windows or place exhaust fans in windows to pull air out of the room to outdoors. Close doors or use plastic sheeting to separate the area being cleaned from other areas of the home.
- 3). Fill 3 buckets with warm water. In one bucket add a general, non-ammonia, household cleaner. Mix water and cleaner according to product directions. In the second bucket add 1/2 to 1 cup household bleach or white vinegar. The third bucket is for clear rinse water.
- 4). Wipe the mold-infected surface with the household cleaner solution. Keep the cloth generously wet but not dripping. Work from top down. The goal is to wet and loosen the mold, along with dirt or grease that is host to the mold infestation. Rinse cloth frequently in the household cleaner solution as you work your way down the surface.

- 6). Spray or wipe bleach water or vinegar water solution on cleansed surface. Work from top down. Wait 15 minutes. Dry with clean paper towels. Discard used paper towels into plastic garbage bag.
- 7). Rinse walls with clear water using a clean cloth. Work from top down. Dry with clean paper towels. Dispose of used paper towels in plastic garbage bag.
- 8). Vacuum the floor and surroundings to remove dead mold spores. Discard vacuum cleaner bag into plastic garbage bag.
- 9). Dispose of protective clothing and refuse. Remove rubber gloves and place in plastic garbage bag with used paper towels. Remove outer clothing. Dispose of clothing or wash separately from the rest of your laundry. Close garbage bag and dispose of the garbage bag as you would dispose of any other household garbage.
