A heartburn also known as acid reflux is a disease that is common to everyone.
It happens when the food that you eat comes back upward to your throat and has an acidic taste.
The reason for which is because the stomach is not relaxed and produces too much acid.
In order for a person to avoid experiencing the reflux or heartburn, he/she should not wait to feel extreme hunger.
Rather, he/she should opt for small frequent meals as one-time-big-time meals can expand the stomach and cannot relax well.
And when this happens, acid reflux occurs.
It is also advisable not to lie down immediately after eating.
Remember Newton's Law of Gravity? Well, this holds true in terms of acid reflux because gravity also takes part in it.
Gravity will help pull down the food that you ate once you are standing and will also help prevent the food from going back up the esophagus.
Wearing comfortable clothes that are not too fit or tight around the waist can also help prevent heartburn from occurring.
The tendency of wearing tight fit clothes is that, it squeezes the stomach and forcing the food to go back up the throat.
If a person is on a diet and uses a slimming belt, he/she should just eat moderately and should avoid over-eating so as to avoid acid reflux from occurring.
Sleeping also has a good part when it comes to acid reflux prevention.
When sleeping, it is recommended that the person should elevate his/her head so that even though the contents of the stomach have been pressed against the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), gravity can lessen the pressure.
Also, being well-rested can also help in keeping the stress levels low.
With this in mind, being relaxed can help in keeping heartburn at bay.
While eating is something that you cannot do away with, it is best to watch what you eat.
Avoid eating too much acid-stimulating foods such as coffee, cola, peppers, fried foods, citrus fruits and juices, chocolate and tomato-based products.
And it is also good if you maintain a balanced diet.
Acid reflux prevention boils down to one thing, a person should always have discipline and stay fit.
One should not compromise his/her health by doing vices and overeat or skipping meals.
A person should always have a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle for him/her to prevent heartburn.
