    • 1). Choose the recipes you want to include in your cookbook. Let your child help you pick the assortment. Include some she can prepare on her own and others that require minimum assistance to encourage her. Read over the recipes together to make sure all ingredients and steps are included. During the selection process, try one recipe each day with your child, having her assist as she's able with preparing and cooking.

    • 2). Make copies of the recipes your child wants to include in her cookbook. If they're from the computer, print them out. If they're in a book or on a recipe card, photocopy them.

    • 3). Include photographs in your cookbook, not only of the dishes themselves but of you with your child in the kitchen. Have a family member take pictures as you work. Download them onto the computer and print some on paper. Insert them into the cookbook on pages by themselves or import them and shrink them to a size that fits on a particular recipe page.

    • 4). Decide what other details you want to put in your cookbook. Include a note with each recipe about the first time your child attempted the dish. Write it in your words and let her share her memories by writing her version. Write down any funny mishaps that occurred, the date your child first made the dish on her own and the family's reaction to the meal. Either write it by hand or type it on the computer.

    • 5). Include a few recipes as a surprise for your child. Include recipes that aren't too complicated as a challenge and something new for her to try.

    • 6). Lay out your recipes, photographs and reminiscences as you want them to appear. Let your child rearrange them and experiment with them in different places until she has a design she likes. When they're in order, put numbers on the bottom of the pages. Create a table of contents at the beginning and an alphabetical index at the end if you have a large number of recipes.
