How to Get Meat Tender in the Crock-Pot
- 1). Heat a heavy skillet over a medium-high burner until very hot. Brown the beef well on all sides, then remove the pan from your burner. This is optional but provides better flavor.
- 2). Preheat your Crock-Pot on low. Season the beef lightly but evenly over its entire surface with salt and pepper.
- 3). Place the browned beef in your preheated Crock-Pot. Dice the onion and add it to the pot.
- 4). Cook the beef for 10 to 12 hours on low -- or half that time on high. After eight hours on low or four hours on high, you might wish to turn the beef over, so the top portion can be submerged in the juices that have cooked out of the beef.
- 5). Remove the meat when it is fork tender. Cover it loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
