How to Use a Drag Harrow

    • 1). Hook the drag harrow up to the machine you'll be pulling it with. Tractors work best, but in their absence you may use a vehicle.

    • 2). Flip the drag harrow to either the tined side or the smooth side according to your needs. The smooth side is best for helping distribute recently sown grass or pasture seed to the soil, or for smoothing out dirt or gravel surfaces. The tined side is best for thatching and removing dead growth.

    • 3). Add weights according to the task. For thatching and removing dead growth, add enough weight for the drag harrow to grip the ground when pulled. For seeding or smoothing, add just enough weight to ensure the drag harrow makes even contact with the ground.

    • 4). Start your tractor or vehicle and pull the drag harrow around the field or pasture. If the drag harrow begins to skip, bounce, or ride on top of the pasture grass, add more weight.
