Therapy Marketing - Ethical Therapy Marketing

Many people, when they start marketing their therapy practice ask how they can market themselves ethically.
This article discusses how you can market yourself ethically.
I also discuss the mindset that is vital to your success.
Many people, especially therapists, have an aversion to "selling" themselves.
This is often why we are bad at marketing.
Many of us have the notion that marketing is inherently unethical or manipulative, as if we are trying to push things on people who don't actually want or need them.
Advertising and marketing can certainly do this and I could list a few big brands that are pretty unethical.
However, what we are talking about here is entirely different.
Firstly, with internet marketing, you are only marketing your services to people who are actively looking for what you offer.
Secondly, do you believe you offer something of value, that can be of real benefit to your clients? I would bet you do, or you wouldn't be practicing your therapy in the first place.
In that case, is telling people about your services, who are actively looking for what you are offering unethical? I would say the opposite: If you offer something that can really help people, isn't it a waste of your skills not to tell people about it! You really need to remind yourself of the value you can bring to people.
The problem is, people often think that valuing what they offer is in some way egotistical or boastful.
This is not the case.
In fact it is usually the people who value themselves least who are the most inclined to boast.
Truly valuing yourself and what you offer comes from a quiet confidence and belief in what you do.
Valuing what you offer is vital to being successful.
After all, If you don't value your services, how can you expect your clients to value them?
