Hang Rod Just Above the Window

• According to Matt Miller of IronHardware.com, the curtain rod should be mounted just above the bedroom window. It should be placed so that the solid part of the curtain panels extend over the top of the window by several inches. If the curtains have tab tops or hardware to attach them to the rod, adjust the rod to achieve several inches' coverage.

• If the tops of your bedroom windows aren't as high as the room's door, HomeEnvy.com's Mag Ruffman recommends that your curtain rods be placed to match the height of the door. This technique will balance out the room and elongate the windows.
