The Old Man and The Cat Bottom Line
One of Country Music Television's most recognizable personalities has stepped out of the box in order to pursue the dream of writing a children's book. The Old Man And The Cat is full of great rhymes and catchy phrases that will have kids entertained every time they read it. This book is perfect for teaching children about life, and is also short enough for any child's bedtime story.About Lance Smith
Growing up in Franklin, Tennessee, Lance Smith learned a lot about country music and became a huge fan of the entertainers. After moving to California to try his hand in acting, he quickly found out that his heart belonged in Tennessee and found his home at CMT. Lance Smith has become one of the most recognizable faces on Country Music Television and over the past eight years, he has hosted CMT's Top 20 Countdown. Everyone in the country music industry respects him. It shows each time he sits down and conducts an interview with one of country's living legends or even one of the newer acts. Chances are, if an artist has had a song on the charts, Lance Smith has interviewed them. This is a huge accomplishment considering that in the entertainment industry, faces always seem to come and go.
Throughout the year, Country Music Television takes their Top 20 Countdown on the road and allows the viewers to see different historical monuments, local dives, and they usually manage to slip in an interview with an artist that is performing in the area. Lance always manages to capture the audience's attention by interacting everyone around into his program.
Watching him grow over the years has been a gift that each of his fans have been able to experience each and every week.
The Old Man and The Cat Review:
"There was an old man with sardines in a can that he kept tucked under his hat" starts off Lance Smith's An Old Man And The Cat. To some, this may be a little odd, but as soon as I read that line, it was clear that Lance contains a writing ability that can only be compared to the one and only Dr. Seuss.Although no one will ever be able to duplicate the creator of "The Cat In The Hat," Lance proves that he has what it takes to be in the same category. The book is recommended for children from ages four to seven, but with a little help, kids much younger can appreciate it too.
Lance can take credit for the writing portions, but the credit for the illustrations go to Manuel Conde. Manuel used some of the brightest colors in order to bring this book to life.
One thing that separates this from anything else is that there are life lessons to be learned throughout the book. The first one is about relationships. Everyone needs someone to rely on and be friends with. The second one is creativity. The man and his little friend decide to use one thing in order to get something bigger. The third lesson is to be able to accept failure and keep on moving when things look bad. The outcome of the book if great and it is more than a happy ending.
As I'm writing this around the holidays, I'd like to recommend this book as a perfect stocking stuffer for any youngsters in the family. Lance Smith may have stepped out of his comfort zone, but it proved to be a wise move.
