All students applying for the scholarship need to fulfill their state requirements along with the federal requirements and apply through their respective states. While applying you need to bear in mind that different states have different eligibility criteria. Students applying from Texas may need to be elected by a guidance counselor at the high school or must fall in the top 10 students of the class. Similarly, in North Carolina, it is necessary for a recipient of this scholarship to have a combined SAT score of minimum 1875 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0.
Generally, a student applying for this scholarship needs to be enrolled at a higher education institute in the country along with an excellent academic record. However, it is not necessary that the college or university is situated in your home state.
This scholarship is also applicable only to legal residents of the country and to those who have graduated from a public or private secondary school or have an equivalent of the high school diploma (GED). Also, it might not be awarded to students who have an old student loan or other obligation in default.
