The Virtual Machine Doesn't Reside on the SAN

    • 1). Select "Modify the Backup Job Properties."

    • 2). Select "Settings."

    • 3). Select "VMware Virtual Infrastructure."

    • 4). Locate the "VMDK Export File Format" and click the drop-down menu to select NBD with the setting, "Do not encrypt the virtual disk data for over-the-network transfers."

The Virtual Disk and SAN are Improperly Configured

    • 1). Click the "Start" menu and select "All Programs."

    • 2). Select "Accessories" and click "Command Prompt."

    • 3). Type "Net Stop Vmount2" (exactly as written, without quotations) in the Command Prompt Screen. This causes VMount to scan for SAN LUNs.

The SAN LUNs are Improperly Configured

    • 1). Open the VMware consolidated backup (VCB) proxy server to verify that the SAN LUNs are improperly configured. Open the "Start" menu and select "Run." Enter "diskmgmt.msc" (without quotes) and select "OK."

    • 2). Ensure all disk drives are labeled as "Healthy."

    • 3). Ensure there's enough free space on the drive. If there isn't, some data may need deletion or you may need to upgrade your virtual drive.

    • 4). Ensure "Fault Tolerance" is set to "No."

    • 5). Ensure "Overdrive" is set to "0%."

    • 6). If any of these are incorrect on your installation, right-click to modify. If this doesn't work, contact your SAN manufacturer for replacement installation.
