Chinese American Scholarships
- Formerly known as the Organization of Chinese Americans, the OCA offers in partnership with United Parcel Service the OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholarship for students who are the first in their families to attend college. Twelve students received the $2,000 award in 2010.
Partnering with Verizon, the OCA-Verizon College Scholarships provided $2,000 to 10 students entering their junior and senior college years and majoring in engineering and technology in 2010.
Chicago-area high-school students may apply for one of four annual OCA scholarships designated for local residents. - The U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation provided 20 scholarships annually, averaging between $4,000 and $5,000 in 2010. Asian American-owned businesses and major corporations offer scholarships through the foundation. Named scholarships include the Bruce Lee Scholarship, which is open to non-Asians, the Drs. Poh Shien & Judy Young Scholarship, and scholarships sponsored by Macy's, PepsiCo and Planned Systems International.
- Chinese-American students interested in a journalism career may qualify for several scholarships offered by the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) . All scholarships are offered in 2011. Three Mary Moy Quon Ing Memorial scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded annually to graduating seniors or those already enrolled in college.
The City University of New York (CUNY)/AAJA Scholarship provides $7,500 in scholarship monies to graduate students attending this New York City school's master's program in journalism.
The Council for International Cooperation (CIC)/Anna Chennault Scholarship allows one high school senior a total of $5,000 for tuition and attendance at the CIC annual convention. - The Chinese-American Medical Society awards several scholarships each year to medical students, scientists or those planning to study dentistry. Applicants must be enrolled in U.S. medical or dental schools.
These scholarships go to students who can demonstrate financial need along with academic merit. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, statement of career goals, curriculum vitae and verification of good standing in their school.
